Norris wants a few “normal days” after F1 title triumph

Newly crowned Formula 1 world champion Lando Norris says he plans to step away from the spotlight for a short period to enjoy a few days of “normal life” following his dramatic title-winning weekend in Abu Dhabi.

Speaking after securing his first F1 championship, the 26-year-old admitted the achievement still feels “surreal” and said he wants time to absorb everything that has happened. Norris explained that his immediate priority is to disconnect briefly from the intensity of the sport.

“I want to try to forget a little bit what we’ve achieved this season — forget that I drive in Formula 1,” he said. “I just want to live a normal few days, go play some golf, do some everyday things, and that’s it.”

Norris clinched the championship by finishing third in the season-ending race, enough to edge out rivals Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri in a closely fought title battle. The result ended Verstappen’s long dominance and delivered McLaren’s first drivers’ crown since 2008.

Despite the quiet break he is hoping for, Norris’ schedule remains busy in the coming days with team commitments, including simulator work, ceremonies and McLaren’s year-end celebrations. He also confirmed that he will race with the number “1” next season — a privilege reserved for the world champion — describing it as a tribute to his team’s efforts.

Even amid victory celebrations, Norris emphasised his desire to stay grounded. His plans for a short return to everyday routines highlight a human, reflective side rarely seen at the top level of motorsport.
